Books on Tape

Growing up I thought books on tape were lame. Why in the world would you listen to a book? It seemed slightly stupid to me. Books were meant to be read. Period. But now I am hooked. About a year ago I got a bus pass, which is very convenient due to the fact that my husband and I have completely different schedules and one car. I really don't mind that it takes longer and it's nice not having to drive sometimes. But what I have really loved about the bus is that it gives me "reading time". I get sick of listening to the same songs over and over and I REALLY get sick if I try reading a book so I have resorted to books on tape. I fell in love with them when I worked custodial on campus and have realized the error of my ways. Books on tape are fabulous. I am currently on the fourth Harry Potter. I wanted to read all seven again before the next movie came out but I haven't had much time to just sit down and read. So this way I can be doing other things and still "read". It's wonderful. Yay for books on tape.

  1. I SO wish I could enjoy books on tape. But, as poor as my memory is, listening to a book is worse. I have listened to many before, and I don't remember a single one. Even right after listening, I don't remember what happened. I'm too much a very visual print learner. I have to see it for myself in order to remember it. (For the same reason, I have a hard time remembering names, unless I see it written down and connect it to the person.)

  2. That sounds like a great idea, to listen to books on tape on the bus instead of trying to read them. I have never listened to a book on tape, but I worry about the voice on the tape. That is my biggest fear and the reason I have not tried it yet.

  4. Whenever we go on a long car trip we always get books on tape. Last time was Harry Potter 7!! Problem is, we usually can't get through them in an entire trip!
